Life Book Week 4

Dion Dior gave the lesson this week titled
Scales of Light.
It was a really interesting exercise
using white pencil or chalk on black paper or cardstock.
The only cardstock I had was textured....
but I went with it anyways.
I liked my white Berol Prismacolor pencil on this project.

I had my hand drawn on the paper and was shading it
as I was thinking what I would be reaching for or towards.
This became another very introspective lesson.
I know the greatest peace I have is when I am walking with God.
But how was I to convey that?
With a big ball of light?
A floating mandala?
A star?
Ah...yes ... getting closer....
Stars. The heavens.
Yes.
I have a great sense of wonder and awe as I look into the skies.
Since moving into rural Ohio...in the middle of nowhere...
the skies are wide open and massive.
Forget Big Sky Montana...
I live in Big Sky Ohio!

But how could I convey the awesomeness of the heavens
on this small piece of paper?
My mind drifted to that Vincent Van Gogh masterpiece,
The Starry Night.
I already knew it couldn't stay black and white if I did this right....
And I am not saying I did it any kind of justice....
but it was fun to interpret it, simply, in my own way.

So this is what I am reaching for...
The wonder and the majesty of God in the heavens.
Wow. That can be enough right there.
That's why I made an upward arrow in my palm
saying See What's Most Important.
But I am also reaching for creative freedom,
represented by Van Gogh's creative genius.
I ended up really liking this lesson.
It came from my heart.

Be Brave and Become
Who You Are Meant To Be.

Daily

The first entry in Daily #6.

I went into a Dover book:
 Decorative Patterns from Historic Sources
(edited by James Spero)
for inspiration on the border above.
Blue and orange caught my fancy in the next spread.

Washi tape also caught my attention.
I don't know why.

The bigger gear is a stamp I hand carved.

And my front cover spread....
I spent a few evenings watching tv with my hubby.
I don't usually do that without a pen in my hand.

I just want to give a shout out to all my kindred spirits.
You know who you are...

We inspire and motivate EACH OTHER...
it's not a one way street!
I am so thankful for other artists....
thankful for the Encouragement,
the Challenges,
the Understanding,
the Connection,
soul to soul.
It's good to be seen.

I love you all.

Life Book Week 3

Christy Tomlinson was the Week 3 instructor.
The lesson was titled New Blooms.
Christy shared a cool technique of paper covered foil.
I used one ply of decorative napkins and store bought tissue paper.
The backgrounds are crayons and inks and stamps and washi tape.

Markers and rub-ons are the finishing touches.

Because of manipulating the foil,
the potential for thickness was great.
I opted for less dimension.....
It's nice that the foil flowers will smoosh down when I close my book.

Abundance is what came to mind as I worked on my blooms.

Live abundantly.

Daily 5 Turns Into Daily 6

I wanted to make a **wintery** cover for this one.
We are bound to get blasted the next month or so.
I made a snowflake with puffy paint on my teflon craft sheet.
When it was dry I thought I could peel it off
and it would be sturdy enough to move around.
Nope.
Too flimsy.
It folded over on top of itself.
But I used it anyways. I still like the look of it.
I mod podged it down, added more raised elements,
Sprayed,
Dripped,
Just had fun with it.
It turned out very monochromatic.
Though there are splashes of greens and purples in there.

I like it.
It will do for the next couple months.

Daily #5 finished up on 1/19/13.
It was 50 degrees outside Saturday morning!
On January 19....in Ohio.
The sky was a deep blue with a light sprinkling of clouds.
The sun was blinding as I ran my errands.
It was a Fabulous day!
I was totally inspired to draw flying birds!

Daily #6 starts today.
I love a fresh start!
And it is so windy and cold out there!
What a contrast from yesterday!

Exhilarating!
Ya gotta love Ohio!

Life Book 2013 Week 2

The lesson during week 2 was given by Monica Zuniga.
The theme was True Intentions.
I am a visual learner....
It really helps me to make a list and scratch things off.
I like to SEE my goals written out.
I liked this lesson of writing my true intentions for the upcoming year.
The hardest part was finding the right stamps to represent me.
The main word I used was Balance,
as I explained in an earlier entry.
But I have many words to describe my future intentions.

 Perfectly Imperfect!
The page is certainly not a masterpiece
but my heart and soul went into it.
I love it!
