10/11/12

Isn't that a fun date?
10/11/12
I guess that shows it doesn't take much to amuse me!

I have finished 4 custom quilts in the last 11 days.
My personal reward was to work on some art
and post it to the Fall Fearless and Fly challenge.
So I took the Abe Lincoln quote from prompt #3,
had a little fun with it.
My goal on this was just to add layers and textures and colors.
I didn't put a lot of thought into it other than that.....
Well... besides needing footprints on the page.
I kept thinking about putting one foot in front of the other....
when you don't know what the future holds...
or where you are going....
But really...
I just wanted to get messy.
I have put a lot of time into my quilt business and it reminds me
why I don't quilt full time.
Mostly..... It is exhausting.
Standing in front of the longarm quilt machine...
intensely focusing on what I am doing....
It is both mentally and physically exhausting.
My head gets fuzzy from the intense focus....
my lower back aches....
my shoulders ache from controling that heavy machine.
Part time quilting is just enough to feed my interest.
Full time quilting is too much.
But with deadlines... it is necessary.

Art is my down time.
I need it.
Badly.

I quickly carved a simple shoe print from an eraser.

...and I drew in little footprints.

Elvis lives here. See him? It is a tape transfer. Fun!
Another spread I have done recently....
I read Brene' Brown's Daring Greatly
and couldn't stop thinking of how much I need connection.

You just have to be Brave and put yourself out there!
Go for it!
Time to start that next quilt.
One more custom is due by Monday!
Have a good weekend everyone!

  1. I just love how you stamped the quote around the outside. It is as if our eyes are going one step at a time around your page. And the texture inside is just yummy! Thank you for joining Fall Fearless & Fly!

  2. I love the words along the edge- it lets the eye take in all the layers of color in the middle! You've been busy with 4 quilts in 11 days- wow! So glad you had time to art journal and join us for Fall Fearless and Fly!

  3. Just getting messy is so relaxing! I so know that feeling. And I love the way the footprints become more distinct as they head across the page, as if the focus of the journey is starting to sharpen.

  4. Getting messy is the best therapy I say!! And for you, it ceratinly makes a nice change from the preciseness(sp?)of creating quilts. Fun pages!!

  7. My goodness! Your energy must always be on HIGH! I can't imagine finishing one quilt in 11 days, let alone 4, and now another for tomorrow! Your pages are wonderful! So neat to carve your own stamp and do a transfer with tape! I hope you have more down time in the next couple of weeks!
