Stencil Hop With Pam Carriker

Welcome to another StencilGirl Stencil Hop!
I was a little nervous thinking about this color wheel stencil
designed by Pam Carriker for StencilGirl....
Primary Secondary Tertiary Stencil S115

I mean a color wheel is a color wheel, right?
red....blue....yellow....green....etc, etc....
Right?
As soon as I opened my envelope with new stencils
I traced the image three times on this open spread.
I had never made a color wheel before.....
I figured it was easy, right?
And I was going to play!
I used Posca Pens here. I didn't have every color to complete it.
But these pens are really opaque and gave me a great start.
Well......
it's not as easy as it looks!!!
Blending all the shades of each color was hard.

I was not completely happy with this playing.
I like how it turned out .....
but I am not happy with the color wheels themselves.
The color blending was not as accurate as I had wanted.
Does that make sense?
I put the color wheel stencil away for awhile.
It needed more thought.
Fast Forward four weeks later......
I am not THAT much of a perfectionist....
but I knew I could do better.
I knew my blending abilities were about to be tested though!
I traced a couple more wheels....in a Strathmore book this time....
...got some scrap papers ready to go....
....got serious....
...and got started.

Can you believe it took several hours to blend these colors?
But what a relief!
It turned out much better than the first spread.

And I have to tell you...I am not touching this one.
I started to fill in the tertiary colors...
then I thought... no way!
One great color wheel is enough.
What else can be done with this great stencil?
A stencil is really a frame... a skeleton....
a beginning... an outline...
I went into my Daily and my Teach Books.....

This is a versatile stencil.
I love it!
It is a great 'frame' for a medallion or a mandala.

But I am really in love with that second attempt
at an accurate color wheel...
the one I was kind of dreading to do......
But so Glad I did!
What a great tool it will be!
Now go see what the other Hop Artists have done with Pam's stencils.
And I challenge You to make an awesome color wheel too!

Thanks for visiting!
Happy Arting Today!

  17. An artist is never content with the first result and builds on the concept and skills until they feel rewarding. These prove the theory..
