Stencil Girl THE BOOK Blog Hop

This is not the conventional StencilGirl Hop we usually participate in.
All the Hop Artists are using different techniques from different chapters of a book.
I am referring to Mary Beth Shaw's second stencil book titled

I found my inspiration on pages 38-43 in the chapter titled...
Let's Get Dimensional.
I used Sculpey Clay, three stencils and a stamp.
See the Seeds Stencil? The Bullet Holes stencil?
The Broken Circles 6 Stencil?
I cooked my little clay circles as the package directed,
let them cool and started painting them.

I guess I was already envisioning colorful flowers...
because these are definitely the centers of flowers!

Page 41 had the best TIP ever!
Now I am able to do a positive and a negative of the Seeds Stencil!

I collaged some doilies and circles onto a blank homemade canvas for texture.
I spread some paint around to get an idea of where I wanted flowers..
and stamped my Seed Stencil stamp here and there.

And since I was getting dimensional....
I squeezed out some Winsor&Newton Galeria tube acrylics in Permanent Green Light.

My centers are done, I am ready for my focal flowers so I pull out a couple more tubes of paint...
I generously squeeze out 'petals'
and using the Liquitex Matte Super Heavy Gel on the backs of my centers,
I gently place them where I want them...

Then I step away from the canvas....for a long, long time!
Lady...Did you Hear me? Step Away from the Canvas....

I let it dry in front of the studio fan all day and all night......
I figured it would take a long time to dry.

More details...More depth.
Hmmmm.... Needs a word.....

I love it!

  11. Love the idea of squeezing out the paint to make the petals, etc.
Easy way to get depth and a look that is not "forced".
My problem is that I get too close to a project and keep seeing the flaws. Step away from the project for a long time is a good mantra.
Great canvas - very pretty. thanks for sharing.

  30. Ah yes, the step away moment - when just one more fiddle creates a muddy colour, or a smear! This is lovely and bright, perfect to cheer me up as today as grey, cold and there's a howling gale.
