Daily #16

The cover story....

It all started with Eileen Hull sending an envelope of goodies
when I was participating in a StencilGirl/Eileen Hull Hop....

I came away with this little box of Truths....

Then these Hydrangea Blossoms immediately went onto
 a future Daily cover.

I love patterns and this gradation of blossoms seemed to come natural.
Gesso as the base...the blossoms remind me of the Quatrefoil 6 stencil,
so I layer some in around the edges...
Some color....More depth for the blossoms with Crystal Lacquer...

Hmmmm....Just not feelin' it.....
Right away I kick that number sixteen to the curb..
...pulling out the can of white spray paint!

Hmmmm..........what to do.....what to do.....
How about another stencil in the background.....
since I covered up my quatrefoils...

Maybe if I soften it.....

No...Not feelin' that...
Still love the pattern and design...
not sure about the background or color...

Layer more paints....get more texture...

I kinda like it.
Do you?
I sat with this cover for a few days.....

No. It just didn't sit well with me.
I pulled out that can of  white spray paint again.
It's like an eraser!

 Maybe its the green.
I pour pink and red and orange inks on it and sprinkle salt...
then let it dry for a day or two.
I can't mess it up at this point!

Hmmmm....

Okay, everything is as dry as it is going to get.
The excess salt and ink gets wiped away and this is what I am left with...
LOVE IT!

I enhance and intensify the colors and textures.
What fun!

I love the subtle addition of one of my favorite stencils...
Damask Medium by Michelle Ward.

I Love how it finally turned out.

Not all projects are this layered or take this many steps...
but I wanted to share the truth of this one!

Happy Arting!

  1. Hi Janet. Thanks for sharing this. I love the idea of the white spray paint for a quick, sort of, eraser to cover everything and then starting over again. It was good for me to see these steps and your decision making. I haven't experimented enough because I'm always fearful that if I don't like it and cover it over once, then I won't know what to do with it. Now I see that redoing it can be done several times before figuing out what to do and liking it. I think you've boosted my courage to keep experimenting and not give up too quickly. Thanks again.....Linda E.
