Color Burst is King!

Hello Stencil Lovers! 

I am back again on Day 5 of the Ken Oliver Crafts and StencilGirl Hop.

I have something a little different this time.

I used Mary Beth Shaw's Circle on Circle stencil 

to space some nice sized circles for color swatches.

I am involved in Mary Ann Moss' online Sketchbookery Class this year.

She encourages her students to draw everything and to make color charts....

among other things....

Since Ken Oliver generously sent us an entire set of the Color Burst Paints

I decided to add them into my Sketchbookery line up.

It was time to play with colors.

Above are the three primary and 3 secondary colors in order

On my paint pallet I sprinkled just a little bit of pigment powder in every color...

into one pile.....then added a bit of water...and the center color is what I got.

But then I kind of knew I would get a gray or brown if I mixed all the colors together.

I experimented with mixing colors and adding salt to some....

And then I drew my little bottles.

They are colorful little soldiers standing tall.

I used a black and a gray Sharpie Marker to add details.

But all that shading and coloring is Ken's Color Burst Paints.

Pretty Fabulous!

The Violet powder is so intense it almost looks black all by itself.

I had tried to pour equal amounts of each color out onto the paint pallet.

Note to self: use less violet!

This was a lot of fun and I look forward to a lot more experimentation.

Plain.

I made myself a nice coloring book page in the front...

Sometimes I just want to do something mindless yet creative.

I will wait for the mood to strike!

I felt that the craftsmanship of this fourth book

was so much better than the other three.

The holes are smaller, the sewing went smoother.

I am glad I am finally learning the right way to make books.

So on to practice...fonts....

Contour drawings....

And sketching....

While I watched television with my hubby....

The Ohio State Buckeyes vs. the Oregon Ducks in the National Title game.

See my quilts all folded up on the shelves?

Can anyone guess where the entertainment center is from?

Does it look familiar?

And an overall pattern on the inside of a decorative file folder....

We watched the game till the very end.

We are big Ohio State Buckeye fans in this family!

SketchBookery Class

The third art journal I made....minus the chevron stitch.

I painted the white book tape and used

 the Doodle It Tornado Bloom stencil by Maria McGuire for texture.

I went with a big made up alphabet...no thinking...just doing...

I pasted in some scrapbook paper for the front back cover...

or is it the back face of the front cover....

no really...it's the inside front cover....right?

And made a pretty flower to say hello.

We are supposed to be looking at the shadows....

and trying different pens and markers.....or mark making tools.

How do you like my wood grain attempts?

Have you noticed coffee is a recurring theme in much of my artwork?

Doesn't everyone have Tony Chachere's on their dinner tables?

Let me just say......

.....Painting clear glass is hard to do.

No Kidding.

I copied this phrase and colorful font from the back of

the magazine,  Flow,  issue 6.

The butterfly is one of the Melody Ross Possibilities File Folders

I added in to my signatures.

Here is a peek at the second Art Journal I made

in Mary Ann Moss' SketchBookery Class.

It is about 7.5" x 9" in dimension.

It would never slip into my purse but I think

it is still a portable size, along with an art bag of supplies.

It was a plain red cover and I wanted to give it a little bit of interest.

Now is a good time to use this Art Deco Wallpaper Stencil by Nathalie Kalbach.

I made it very simple...gesso through the stencil...let it dry completely...

paint it with DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic in Pyrrole Red.

It is a nice transparent red-orange color that gave a subtle contrast.

I stamped the cover with this awesome 1" Alphabet Stamp Set

and then filled in the letters with a rust colored Glaze Pen.

On my inside cover I used the StencilGirl Crackle Stencil, also designed by Nathalie.

Remember you saw the lid to this sugar bowl in my previous SketchBookery post? 

I made 4 different sized books and I am using them all concurrently!

When a page is drying in one book, I go to the next and start something else.

I have a lot of pages to fill....and so much to learn!
