StencilGirl Meets Colourcraft

Here we are at Day 2 of the StencilGirl and Colourcraft Blog Hop.

I had so much fun playing with these products!

I opted for the Brusho Cool Colour Pack with  Brusho Thickener

as well as Prussian Blue, Ultramarine, Turquoise,

 Leaf Green and Sea Green.

WOW!

After experimenting on paper and in journals I thought

I would try the Brusho's on canvas paper to see if I could sew something.

I started with layers and layers of the different 

Brusho blues and greens through various stencils... 

in my eagerness to try sewing it, I used art crayons for a quick final layer.

It turns out you CAN sew zippers into canvas paper!

Hmmmm...That opens up a lot of possibilities!

I made a simple bag with my first experimental canvas paper.

Then I played with a few other canvas papers and stencils and Brusho paints.

Layers and Layers and Layers of Fun!

Another Colourcraft Product I received to play with was this 

Aztec Metallics Craft Paint in Antique Gold.

The gold paint showed up so beautifully on these canvas papers

and on top of the Brusho paint layers.

I quickly spray painted stencils on the back sides of the canvas paper
so it would add some interest when opening these zippered bags. 

There you go! I love these finished bags.

StencilGirl and Walnut Hollow Blog Hop

Hello Stencil Friends!

Welcome to Day 2 of the StencilGirl and Walnut Hollow Blog Hop.

I chose this Square Tray to build my project on.

I was wanting something bright and cheerful....

A good project for the gray end of winter.

I had been going through my stash for another project 

and had pulled out bits and pieces of papers, gelli prints and collage materials.

This made the perfect start for the bottom of the tray.

There is Mary Beth Shaw's Bullseye Stencil.

And  the Repetition Stencil... as well as a sphere from

the February 2017 StencilClub Stencil Set.

Here is the Hash Marks Stencil and Rows of Triangles.

I used a variety of stamps and magazine scraps and song lyrics.

There is tissue paper and napkins and scrapbook paper...

As well as Acrylic Paints and Markers.

I wanted some contrast to set off the collage,

so I painted the inside walls of the tray a nice creamy yellow

and mixed a nice turquoise for the outside walls.

To top it off I lightly added Journal Texture #2.

I gave the insides several coats of varnish for protection.

I love how it turned out.

Kraft Tex and StencilGirl Blog Hop

Welcome to Day One of the C&T Publishing and StencilGirl Blog Hop.

How exciting to get my hands on Kraft-Tex!

I chose this beautiful rich color.....Tangerine.

Wow! Lucious!

I tried everything I could with the product.

I painted it, spray painted it, glazed it, antiqued it, cut it, stamped on it, 

dripped ink on it, sewed it, glued it, super glued it and stenciled it.... 

I'll be honest and tell you I made several projects with this roll.

Here is one of my favorite's.

I started by sewing book cover size cardboard in between the product. 

I knew I wanted to make a book but wasn't sure which direction it would take.

Next up I used flat white spray paint through the Damask Medium Stencil.

A few little spritzes of yellow spray inks....

At this point I figured out the logistics of papers and signatures and binding...

So I put all that together and punched the holes.

Now I felt I could continue having an idea how it might all work together.

So I began adding color to the damask design with Faber-Castell Pitt pens. 

They are india ink pens and are permanent.

  I thought they would be a good match to the Kraft-Tex base layer.

I played until I liked the flow of it

and sprayed it with Krylon Matte Finish Spray Fixative.

Then I mod podged the whole thing.

It soaked right in and left a beautiful, satiny finish.

I liked it alot...but I wanted more of an aged look.

The Kraft-Tex has a great texture by itself.

It reminds me of leather, and I was hoping to emphasize that aspect....

but how?

I decided to try a crackle glaze and antiquing paint.

I followed the directions on the jar.

I don't use this stuff every day!

I admit it was a little scary!

But Wow! 

I rubbed it into the crackly cracks

and gave the finished journal a coat of Matte Varnish.

I Love Love Love how this finished!

The inside covers of the book are simply 

a Flat White Spray Paint through the What's the Point? Stencil.

Simple and sweet.

I thought it needed a closure and considered several types before settling on this one.

It is machine sewn to the back cover.

The Velcro is glued with E6000. 

I had to go back and use Super Glue to the front cover Velcro.

I am hoping it won't give me a problem.

I also used the 4x4 Journal Texture #1 on that flap.

See the little hole pattern there in red? 

There you go!

2017 Planner Pages for January

Hi Friends. 

We are half way through January 2017 already.

I wanted to try to blog just a little bit more this year...

so this is me showing up for the occasion!

Here I am in my 2017 Planner.

I'm not sure how I should refer to it other than my planner.

For the last 3 years it has been my DLP... Documented Life Project.

This year we are on our own ...therefore it's just my planner.

But it is no ordinary planner.

I fully treasure my last 3 books and am treating this in the same way

and doing it in the same style.

I picked my word for the year....NURTURE.

It was hard to narrow down to one focus word.

I want to nurture my relationships with God, family and friends.

Week two's PP (planner prompt) was arrow. 

I love the January 2017 StencilClub stencil set. I used the 6" stencil below.

Included in both of these week's planner pages is Mary Beth Shaw's new planner stencils.

Here, Here, Here and Here. As well as this alphabet.

I am often asked what supplies I use on these pages. 

This year I took a regular lined inexpensive journal from Staples 

and gessoed every page front and back, as well as the covers.

This was my summer project after rotator cuff surgery on my dominant arm.

I figured it was an easy, slow project that did not take any precision from me.

I just slapped on the gesso, let it dry and turned the page to do it again.

I started from the back page with the last week of the year and set up the calendar format.

That left me with the front half of the book with pages for lists 

and other art work and experimentation. Fun!

I use all kinds of markers and paint pens and sharpies and watercolors and spray inks 

and crayons and gelatos.....

Pretty much anything goes on these pages.

I use stencils and stamps and papers....

On one of my front extra pages

I was practicing with a small gelli plate someone gave me using 

some of Maria McGuire's Be Brave stencil line.

The Breathe and Spread Your Wings stencils.

And Look! There's a RubberMoon sticker from a recent package!

My cover will have many layers before this new year has ended.
